Kathmandu activities

Betty A. walking across our branch chapel. Showing you the
new carpet, Elder Wasuita was the instigator to get it installed.
Good job Elder!

Great place for a nap! downtown, Kings Way.

Shopping for vegetables. The brown looking things are yams.
I haven't tried them. They look like old pieces of wood.

My saranghee lesson in Thamel. It's harder to do than it looks.
Lots of practice, which I have not been doing.

Beautiful mountains in the early morning at Besishahar.

Sister Wasuita and our good friend Bishnu Adhikari on a
walking bridge in Besishahar.

Handing out hygiene kits at a school in Besisihahar. Love the
children.

Kathmandu Branch New Years's party at a cafe. They were

Mike and I helped deliver hygiene kits to a children's hospital
It was too sad to see the sick children and the hospital smelled bad.

Wheelchair Assessment Training and Making Naan 2014

In November 2014 we helped with Wheelchair assessment training. One session was done in Kathmandu and another in Pokhara. Kim and Gaye Brown came from U.S. to do training. They were fun to get to know. It is interesting to see how they make naan (type of tortillas) They have a special oven they cook them in. Oh the things we see and learn here in Nepal. Education you can get no where else.

They were having a cricket tournament behind the place
where we were having training. Also if you look closely
you can see the Himals in the background. It was a
great view of the mountains.

was about 20 students in each class that were taught how
to fit people properly for wheelchairs.

Deschain and Tihar October 2015

During the month of October is a big festival time for the Hindus. It is a happy time for families to go back to their villages.  A time for big feasts, new clothes, gifts, etc. kind of like Christmas for us. They celebrate with a light festival. They put up bamboo poles and create swings. The children fly kites and they create out of wood a kind of ferris wheel. It is only in this month, then they take them all down. They decorate their homes and business with marigolds. They string them up and then leave them up for a long time. sometimes till the next Deschain. It is good luck.

Ferris wheel in a village.

A swing. It is strong enough for adults to swing.

Security guard (Shem) at our apartment. 1st day of holiday
you plant grain or grass, then on the 10th day you pick it and wear it
behind your ear. Symbolism.

it rains in Nepal.

Elder Wasuita swinging. Needed a push to get going.

Jim and Karen Greding (our technical specialists from Cal.) were
here in October. We showed them most of our ongoing
water projects. Beautiful Nepal!

Tihar in Besishahar. The kids line the streets to sing
and dance. They don't let vehicles pass unless they
give them money.

Kids in Besishahar. Mike got them to sing Resam firiri. Such
posers. All kids are the same.

What a dangerous way to travel. No room inside
the vehicle. Hang on outside.
